"My grandparents were "The Help" for several families in the South. Living for years on Air Force bases, I was not aware that the "world" saw me as a person of color with limited opportunities and potential. Fortunately, my family and extended community taught me compassion, values and the power of education. Eventually moving to the South, we withstood the ugliness of segregation and desegregation. Certainly progress has been made. "The Help" serves to remind me to continue to develop and celebrate my friendships - friendships that often celebrate the differences of race, religious and political differences."
