"That's me on the left. I couldn't help but think of this picture and think of my mom as I read The Help. Mom grew up dirt poor in Alabama, the oldest of 11, and told us many stories of picking cotton as soon as she was old enough to be in the field. Just like Skeeter, Mom was a strong woman who knew her own mind. I lost her last year to Alzheimers – a dreadful disease that she always hoped she’d never get. So much of The Help brought back memories of things like the colored section in the cemetery where my grandparents, and now my parents, are buried. Thank the Lord for strong brave women who have impacted their children, and even their communities and their nation by standing up for what it right and what is worth fighting for."
